The effects of alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme activity in maintaining health of fruit flies

Animals have ADH (Alcohol Dehydrogenase) genes encoding the ADH protein to metabolize alcohol.
● We can use fruit flies, Drosophila melanogaster, as a model subject to study alcohol metabolism.
● The fly type with normal function of their ADH gene is called ADH+, while a mutation with loss of function in this gene is called ADHn1.
